Over the years I have been lucky enough to photograph the moon several times from the north (Alum Bay) side of The Needles but only a couple of times from the south side so I was really hoping for good conditions on this night!
It didn't look promising to begin with, with a murky cloud bank hanging low in the sky over the mainland, just where the crescent moon would set.
But as the moon inched toward the horizon, the cloud slowly dissipated allowing the gentle glow from the Dorset coastline to paint the crescent moon a dusky pink. The lights being on in the Needles lighthouse were an added bonus!
