About the limited edition prints

The photographs on this site are produced using Epson 4880 and 9880 archival inkjet printers (also known as 'giclee' printers) which offers print quality indistinguishable from traditional wet process printing. The printers use pigmented inks that offer image longevity which matches or exceeds many photographic printing processes.

Having used film for 15 years, Steve was apprehensive about digital photography, not believing the quality of pixels could rival silver halides. However, his fears were allayed when he examined some prints made with a Fuji S2 Pro back in 2002.

Having realised the quality and workflow benefits of this new technology, Steve now uses the Canon 1Ds Mk3 along with Canon's excellent 'L' series lenses; a combination that rivals medium format film for quality with the advantages of a 35mm SLR system.

Of course, technology is no substitute for experience, and Steve utilises his 10 years worth of darkroom hand-printing skills to produce the images he sells. None of his photographs are 'enhanced'-instead the traditional darkroom techniques of dodging/burning and contrast masking are employed to make the final image as close as possible to the original scene.

All of the photographs on this site are available to buy mounted and ready to frame. The mount-board used is an acid free neutral cream white-core board which will not discolour over time and sets the photographs off beautifully.

The photos come in 3 different shapes (listed above); a 'standard' shape and two panoramic shapes. Please bear in mind that the images in the gallery sections are heavily compressed for web use and not indicative of the quality of the finished print. Canvas prints are also available and are 'gallery' wrapped over wooden frame ready to hang. (Gallery wrapped means the image extends round the edge of the frame, giving a modern, contemporary look.)
